With “Wake ‘n Bake,” the first single from Duo Brothers’ third album, Cream and Sugar, you get a lot more than the name would have you believe. Our favorite cosmic cruisers offer up a smoothed-out, heady swirl of wah-wah guitars and quivering keys that’ll set you straight for the day. But the quartet stripped the track down to its essentials. Guitarist Yonatan Levy says the track exists “on the edge of minimalism,” which translates to three minutes of instantly memorable melodies traded between Levy, keyboardist Shaul Eshet and bassist Elyasaf Bashari. It’s a potent crystallization of Duo Brothers’ sound: just the right mix of structure and flow, locked into a groove that could repeat on forever.
